In the summer of 1965 my mother had to sleep at the Greyhound bus station for a week with two young sons. She had just left her husband and was scared and devastated. Thankfully , because of the values her mother taught her , she kept hope alive. Even though she didn't know where her next meal was coming from - she knew she would survive and eventually thrive once again.
My mother was born knowing she was a Queen. Her philosophy was , " if one door closes that means another is opening". True to her philosophy , a week later a nice lady took her and my brothers to a Women's shelter owned and operated by nuns. It was located on Adams and Hoover in Los Angeles. She stayed there a year until she got on her feet. She would go on to help many women by her example of living boldly, being unwilling to compromise her standards and values.
Fast forward 50 years. I have taken some of my mothers values. I am healer , fashion , designer, writer and spiritual teacher. I am deeply passionate about awakening , affirming , and empowering homeless woman. My mother is now an ancestor but I am keeping her dreams alive in me.
A year or so ago , I purchased a set of jazzy computer bags with thoughts of bedazzling them with charms and rhinestone for resale and profit. I even came up with the idea to call them " Pack Life ", a metaphor for lightening your load. Consumers were to use them not only for computers but also for clothing , as a overnight mini luggage, for products and as a diaper bag. For whatever reasons, they did not move . I tried eBay and web sites. I finally accepted that Spirit wanted me to do something else with the Pack Light Bags.
On what would've been my mothers 80th birthday , I got the message about what I would do with the bags. I felt her presence and rebel energy strongly all around me. I heard her clearly say " you are going to give your cute bags to homeless women , Jacquelyn. Fill them with things they need while trying to survive in the streets. Put a note in the bag to remind them to release and let go.
I had a instant mental clearing my heart fluttered and I was on fire about distributing the Pack Light Bags. Then spirit spoke to me again. I was told that I was to expand the vision and create project to heal, inspire and affirm homeless woman. and so the journey begin.
